The “Vienna International Music Competition” has been designed to promote musicians of all ages and disciplines. Vienna is universally considered the capital city for classical music, and many prizes will be awarded: performances at the prestigious MUSIKVEREIN Concert Hall in Vienna, cash prizes, 5 Special Awards (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, Contemporary), 5 Music Albums (released worldwide) and many Special Awards.

The "7th Vienna International Music Competition" has been designed as an ONLINE COMPETITION: the selection is entirely made through video recordings. Applying does not require travel.

1. OVERVIEW

The Vienna International Music Competition is an international online competition open to musicians of all ages and all musical disciplines. Vienna is universally regarded as the capital of classical music, and this competition offers exceptional opportunities, including over 50.000€ in prizes:

The entire selection process is conducted Online, based on submitted recordings. No travel is required to apply.

2. COMPETITION STRUCTURE 

The competition is divided into two independent sections. Candidates may apply for one section or both. Each section is evaluated independently by a different jury panel.

SECTION 1
Live Performance – Winners’ Concert at Musikverein (Vienna)

✔️Winners will perform at the Musikverein (Brahms Saal)

✔️At least 10 musicians will be selected

✔️Each selected musician will receive:

-a cash prize (professional fee)

-diploma and trophy

-international promotion

SECTION 2
Recording Project & Special Awards – Music Albums

Five Special Awards are offered:

(based on the year of composition of the submitted video)

✔️Baroque Music Prize (1600–1750)

✔️Classical Music Prize (1750–1820)

✔️Romantic Music Prize (1820–1900)

✔️Impressionism / Modern Music Prize (1900–1970)

✔️Contemporary Music Prize (1970–2026)

AWARDS include:

✔️5 digital music albums, distributed worldwide

✔️5 Special Awards with diplomas (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, Contemporary)

✔️Cash prizes

 

 

3. ELIGIBILITY & AGE CATEGORIES:

Age Categories

(for instrumentalists and singers, Age Cutoff Date: 1 April 2026)

  • Junior: up to 15 years old

  • Young Artist: 16–22 years old

  • Virtuoso: 23–29 years old

  • Professional: 30 years and older (no age limit)

Other Categories

  • Chamber Music: all ages

  • Composition: all ages

4. MUSIC DISCIPLINES:

All musical disciplines are accepted:

  • Piano

  • Strings
    (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)

  • Wind: Woodwind & Brass
    (Flute, Recorder, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba)

  • Others: Accordion / Guitar / Harp / Harpsichord / Percussion

  • Voice
    (Soprano, Mezzo, Contralto, Tenor, Countertenor, Baritone, Bass)

  • Chamber Music
    (Duos, Trios, Quartets, Quintets, Sextets, and larger ensembles.)

  • Composition

 

 

5. HOW TO APPLY - ONLINE APPLICATION:

All candidates must register online via the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM.

 

Application Steps:

  1. Complete the ONLINE Application Form

  2. Select:

    • competition category

    • competition section(s)

  3. Submit one or various audition links

  4. Pay the application fee (95€ for one section, 50€ for the additional section)

 

 

6. ONLINE APPLICATION - AUDITION MATERIAL:

 

When completing the Online Application Form, candidates must submit one or various recording link(s).

Accepted Formats

  • Instrumentalists, singers & chamber music ensembles:
    Video recording required

  • Composers:
    Audio or video recordings accepted

 

Accepted Platforms

YouTube · Vimeo · Youku · SoundCloud · Google Drive · Dropbox · WeTransfer (or similar)

6.1. Guidelines for Section 1 (Musikverein)

One primary link is sufficient to apply, and 1 or 2 additional links may be included optionally.

There is no minimum required duration. All applications are accepted regardless of length.

The advised maximum duration (all recordings combined) is 30 minutes.

If the total duration exceeds this limit, the application will still be accepted; however, the jury reserves the right to evaluate the first 30 minutes.

The same link(s) may be used for Section 2 (Special Awards - Music Albums).

Solo works, concertos, sonatas, and chamber works are accepted.
The repertoire may differ from the proposed concert program.

6.2. Guidelines for Section 2 (Special Awards, Music Albums: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern-Impressionism, Contemporary)

Applicants may select the award(s) they would like to apply for and provide one link per award. It is possible to apply for one or several awards. The same link(s) may be used for Section 1 (Musikverein).

 

There is no minimum required duration. All applications are accepted regardless of length.

The advised maximum duration for the special awards is 15 minutes per video. If the total duration exceeds this limit, the application will still be accepted; however, the jury reserves the right to evaluate the first 15 minutes.


Each section is judged independently by different jury panels.

7. OPTIONAL INFORMATION:

In the final section of the Online Application Form, candidates may complete optionally:

  • Short biography (max. 300 words)

  • Repertoire proposals

  • Additional information

These fields are completely optional and will not affect the selection process.

8. REPERTOIRE PROPOSALS:

Applicants will be able to submit optionally their repertoire proposals for the Winners' Concert at Musikverein and the Special Awards (Music Albums) through the Online Application Form (optional, non mandatory). This information is completely optional and will not negatively affect the selection process.

 

Section 1 – Musikverein Concert

  • 1 to 3 works

  • Maximum total duration for performance at Musikverein: 15 minutes

  • FREE repertoire

  • Proposal may be modified later

  • Piano accompaniment will be provided by the organization

 

Section 2 – Special Awards & Music Albums

  • Total duration: 15 to 70 minutes

  • FREE repertoire

  • One or multiple proposals allowed

  • May be modified later

 

 

9. SPECIAL NOTES (for Chamber Music Ensembles and Composers):

 

Chamber Music

  • The application is submitted by one ensemble member

  • Ensemble details (members, instruments) may be added in application form

 

Composition

  • Works must be composed after 2010

  • Maximum duration: 20 minutes

  • Score upload (PDF) required (uploaded) or sent by email

  • Composers may indicate performer preferences

  • Composers may apply for:

    • Section 1 (Musikverein)

    • Section 2 (Special Awards: Contemporary Music Prize)

    • or both

AWARD PUBLICATION

- Winners' names will be published on 6 March 2026 on the “Vienna International Music Competition” website: (www.viennacompetition.com). Each participant will be contacted individually by the organization by email, and informed about the official results.

- The Winners' concert at Musikverein in Vienna will take place on Friday, 3 APRIL 2026.

- International Jury: The audition for the jury will be evaluated through the video materials presented by each participant. A panel of international judges will evaluate the video material submitted, and the final selections of winners will be based solely on the video recordings submitted. Judges are independent, and their students are not permitted to participate in the competition. The jury evaluates all eligible submissions fairly and independently. Jury decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

- By submitting an application, the musician accepts all regulations of the Vienna International Music Competition.

ALL APPLICANTS WILL RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION
